SUPPORT FOR AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER
Understanding How The Brain Works Can Change How You Support It.
Neurofeedback and Counseling in Denver, CO
Autism looks different in every person. The child who needs precise routines and finds certain sounds physically painful. The adult who has always felt slightly out of step with the social world around them without quite knowing why. The person who is extraordinarily capable in specific domains and finds other ordinary things genuinely baffling. The high achiever who has been masking their entire life and is finally running out of bandwidth to keep it up.
Autism is a different kind of wiring, and different wiring requires different kinds of support. At LuxNeuro, we are not trying to make someone less themselves. We are looking at the nervous system patterns that may be making daily life harder while protecting the strengths, gifts, and ways of processing that are core to who that person is. The goal is not to change who the person is. It is to support the nervous system patterns that may be getting in the way of access, comfort, communication, sleep, regulation, and daily life.
At LuxNeuro we work with autistic children, teens, and adults through neurofeedback and counseling, with a focus on nervous system regulation, sensory processing, sleep, focus, and the specific kind of exhaustion that comes from navigating a world not built for how the brain works. We start with a brain map. We build an approach specific to the person in front of us. We do not apply a standard autism protocol because standard protocols do not account for the significant variation in how autism actually presents.

How We Work
1. Discovery Call
We hear what has been going on for the person seeking support, whether that is an adult coming in for themselves or a parent coming in on behalf of their child. We listen for patterns and start to make sense of what the nervous system may be doing underneath the presenting experience.
2. Brain Map
We map the brain before doing anything else. Autism presents very differently from person to person, and the brain map helps us understand what we are working with before we decide on an approach. This is how we avoid applying a one-size approach to a population that does not fit one size.
3. Neurofeedback and Counseling
From there we build an approach based on what the brain map shows. For children and teens, we involve parents in understanding what we find and how we are working with it. For adults, we build around your specific goals and what matters most to your daily life.
Coming for counseling only? We start with the discovery call and go from there.
What We Tend To Work With
The challenges that bring autistic people and their families to LuxNeuro vary significantly. Some of the most common include:
Sensory Processing and Regulation
Some people may have too much fast brainwave activity, what we think of as a gas pedal with no brakes. This can show up as constant alertness, difficulty calming down, a mind that will not stop even when nothing is happening.
Sleep
Some brainwaves are meant to help the brain process and reset. When these may be off, thoughts can repeat, the same concern comes back again and again, and even when you interrupt it, it returns.
Focus and Executive Function
Some people have a system that may react strongly to even small inputs. Everything seems to set it off. Reactions can feel bigger than the situation warrants. Some people describe it as feeling like an exposed nerve.
Anxiety and Nervous System Activation
Chronic anxiety is common in autistic people and may be connected to the sustained effort of navigating unpredictable environments and social demands. There is also a communication layer worth naming. Many autistic people describe the experience of speaking clearly and still not being understood, not because the words are wrong but because something in the transmission does not quite land. That gap is frustrating and isolating in a specific way. Neurofeedback may help the nervous system build more access to calming rhythms, which may support a lower baseline of activation for some people.
Masking and Burnout
Many autistic people, particularly those who were identified late or who present in ways that did not match historical diagnostic criteria, have spent years performing a version of themselves that was more legible to the world around them. That sustained effort can contribute to a specific kind of burnout that may look like depression, withdrawal, or significant loss of function. Understanding the masking piece changes what the support needs to address.

A Note On Invisible Autism In Adults
Many adults who are autistic were not identified as children. They were intelligent, verbal, socially curious, and good at adapting, which meant the autism did not look like what clinicians were trained to recognize. Many were diagnosed with anxiety, depression, or other conditions that may have been real and important, while also being connected to years of navigating the world without understanding how their brain worked.
Late-identified autistic adults often describe a specific kind of relief when they finally have an accurate framework for their experience. Not because the label changes anything about who they are but because it offers a more accurate explanation than the ones they had been working with. More accurate explanations can lead to more useful approaches.
We work with adults who have a formal diagnosis, adults who suspect they may be autistic and have not pursued a formal evaluation, and adults who simply know that something about how they process the world is different and costly and has never been adequately understood. All of those are good reasons to be here.
For Parents:
Working with an autistic child through neurofeedback is a collaborative process. We involve parents in understanding what the brain map shows, what we are working toward, and how to support regulation at home between sessions. Understanding your child’s nervous system, not just their behavior, can change the way you understand and support them.
We work with children across a range of presentations. We are not the right fit for every child and we will tell you that clearly in the discovery call if that is the case.

Common Questions
Do you work with nonverbal or minimally verbal autistic people?
Our neurofeedback and counseling work is most accessible for verbal children, teens, and adults. If you are unsure whether your child is a good fit, the discovery call is the right place to start that conversation.
Does neurofeedback treat autism?
Neurofeedback does not treat or cure autism. It works with the brain patterns that may be contributing to specific challenges such as sleep, sensory processing, anxiety, and focus, without aiming to change who the person fundamentally is.
Do you need a formal diagnosis to work with you?
No. Many people we work with are formally diagnosed. Others are not but recognize themselves in the autism experience and are looking for support. We start with what is actually present rather than what is on paper.
How is this different from ABA or other autism therapies?
We do not provide ABA. Our approach works with the brain’s electrical patterns and nervous system regulation rather than focusing primarily on behavior. We aim to support the patterns that may be affecting sleep, sensory overload, anxiety, focus, communication, and access to the person’s genuine strengths.
What does the research say about neurofeedback and autism?
There is a growing body of published peer-reviewed research exploring neurofeedback for specific challenges associated with autism, including attention, anxiety, and sensory processing. The research base is still developing and we do not claim more certainty than the evidence supports. We are happy to discuss what the research shows in your discovery call.
If you are looking for support that starts with understanding the brain rather than managing the behavior, we can start there.
